Large maintenance machinery (referred to as’large instrument’) on the railway is the key equipment to maintain the normal operation of railway lines, and it combines the specialized knowledge and technology such as mechanical, mechatronics and automatic control. The traditional method for anti-collision between large instruments is artificial call which can’t avoid collision completely in conditions like bad weather, emergencies and personnel fatigue. Therefore, an anti-collision system of large instrument comes into being. The system can calculate the distance between the large instruments and alarm timely by GPS signal and building wireless central autonomic network. In case of emergency, it even can automatically brake. Due to the elimination of collision safety problems during large instruments operation, so this system has great value in engineering application.Large instrument’s anti-collision system is composed of three parts. The first part is the front-end detection device installed in driver’s cab; second part is the monitor system in remote server; third one is the communication between front-end device and remote monitor system. The last two parts are the focus of the study, and its contents are mainly included as the following:(1)The existing solutions of large instrument’s anti-collision system and remote supervising are studied deeply. What’s more, wireless communication technology is learned in detail too.(2)In order to meet the demands of anti-collision system, which is considered to be a starting point, the schemes of remote communication and supervising system for remote server are designed.(3)The hardware interface circuit of wireless communication into the frond-end anti-collision device on the large instrument is planned, which realize the remote supervising by the wireless way of GPRS.(4)The softwares of remote supervising in the server-side are designed. Softwares including network connection, server, database and interactive, are all implemented by programming.(5)The function and performance of hardware or software for the anti-collision system are tested. The test results show that the design of hardware and software can meet the demands of the system.The designed anti-collision system has been installed in the most equiments into large instrument, which plays relatively good economic and security benefits.
