| Mentougou District is located in the west montainous area of Beijing. The unique natural environment and traditional culture give birth to a specific vernacular landscape here. This paper describes the formation background of the vernacular landscape and its basic constitute elements. By analyzing the topography, hydrology, climate, land resources and vegetation resources of natural landscape, the formation background, develope process, spacial distribution, morphological pattern of ancient villages, and the status, influence factors, irrigation works of the agricultural landscape, the character of each landscape elements can be clearly described. Based on this,the common mode and overall structure of the vernacular landscape in Mentougou District can be summarized and the various factors that cause the differences among vernacular landscape in different regions can be listed. Finally, the necessity of protecting vernacular landscape in Mentougou District and the extraordinary meaning of researching vernacular landscape for today’s landscape architecture has been put forward. |
