Altingia gracilipes belongs to Hamamelidaceae Altingia,it is an indecidous and excellentfast-growing broadleaf species. Because it had long been propagated by seed, there was greatdifferentiation phenomenon. In order to meet the needs of nursery stock and provide thetechnological basis for effective cultivation and utilization of Altingia gracilipes, we studied thecutting propagation technology and rooting mechanism of it. The main results were summarizedas follows:Cuttings propagation of Altingia gracilipes was callus rooting, and it belonged to not easyrooting tree species. Altingia gracilipes softwood cutting period was about60days.Exogenous hormone played an important role in rooting of cuttings. Under the treatment ofNAA、IAA and GGR, NAA treatment had the better rooting characteristics on the whole. AndNAA300mg/L had the best rooting effect, rooting rate was78.3%, average rooting number was23.7, average root length was4.3cm, root effect index was5.1. On the rooting time,NAA300mg/L took root after cutting30days later, ahead of15days compared with the controlcheck.During the rooting process, nutrients showed regular change with the appear of callus andadventitious root. Soluble sugar content present“rise-descend-rise”variation tendency; starchcontent present“descend-rise”variation tendency; soluble protein content present“rise-descend”variation tendency.Related enzyme activity had close connection with rooting. The study found that SODactivity present“rise-descend”variation tendency; POD activity present“rise-descend-rise”variation tendency; PPO and IAAO activity presen“trise-descend”variation tendency. Exogenoushormone treatment significantly increased the activity of related enzyme.IAA、ABA、ZR and GA3had different change rules during the rooting process. The contentof IAA、ZR and GA3in rooting process was promote with rooting rate, the content of ABA wasinhibitory with rooting rate. During the period of callus induction and adventitious rootemergence, the change of IAA content was contrary to ABA, and the ratio of IAA and ABA wasincreasing. During the formation of callus, the ratio of IAA and ZR was decilining; and duringadventitious root formation, the ratio of IAA and ZR was increasing.
