With the constant improvement of living standards,urban and rural residents have a largedemand of fresh corn and higher requests of taste and flavor. Customers were not satisfied withthe taste and flavor of single sweet corn and waxy corn currently. More and more attentionswere paid on sweet-waxy corn by customers. Therefore, breeding of sweet-waxy corn withdouble recessive genes has been a study area for fresh corn breeding. Varieties breeding forsweet-waxy corn require one parent should be a double-recessive or multi-recessive sweet-waxyhomozygote. The double-recessive sweet-waxy corn inbred line Zhong2JP233was an inbred linefitting for this demand. New vaireties, which had Zhong2JP233as one parent, met the marketdemand in our province.In this paper, the breeding process and general combining ability (GCA) of thedouble-recessive sweet-waxy corn inbred line Zhong2jP233were studied; we also studied thebreeding process, test performance, eiffcient cultivation techniques and promoting mode, etc. forsome new varieties such as Zhetian6, Zhenuoyu5, Huatiannuo072,which all had Zhong2jP233as one parent. The main results are as follows:1.The results of GCA test for9sweet inbred lines in2007and2009showed thatZhong2JP233had a high general combining ability, and could serve as a main parent forcombining ability tests with other inbred lines to obtain higher-yields and better-quality newvarieties.2.Zhetian6(Zhong2jp233><Da28-2), which was authorized by Zhejiang Province in2005(number: Zheshenyu2005003),is a yellow and white mid-maturation hybrid. In the expeirments,the vairety grew well, had strong lodging resistance and medium disease resistance, and hadsuitable maturity, large ear, well-proportioned and good commercial qualities, sweet taste,thinand residue-free traits. In regional test in Zhejiang Province in2002?2003,the average yield(fresh ears) was709.7kg per mu. Compared with the controlSupersweet3,the yield had a16.9%increase; In production test in2003,the average yield was761.9kg per mu and had a19.2%increase compared with the control. In Southeast regional tests in2004-2005, the totalscore of Zhetian6was85.5and87.0respectively, and had a superior quality evaluation byorganizing the experts to taste.3.Zhenuoyu5(Zhong2jp233x Su171), which was authorized by Zhejiang Province in2009(number: Zheshenyu2009004), is a white middle early hybrids. In regional test inZhejiang Province in2007?2008, the average yield (fresh ears) was821.3kg per mu. Comparedwith the controlSuyunuo2,the yield had a7.0%increase; In production test in2009,the average yield was948.2kg per mu and had a14.8%increase when compared with the control. Inregional test in Zhejiang Province, the comprehensive score was81.8by evaluating test qualityand cooking quality. Zhenuoyu5taste waxy and sweet and have thin pericarp. Zhenuoyu5,as anewly selected and ifne variety of sweet-waxy corn, compared with the main and same typevarieties in our province such as Dushiliren, Meiyu3and Meiyu8,ect., has higher plant height,moderate ear height, stronger lodging resistance, earlier maturity, more obvious yieldadvantages and easier to plant and manage. Meantime, it is more suitable for soil and climaticconditions in our province.4.Huatiannuo072(Zhong2j<p233> SH23),the latest colorful combination of sweet-waxyrfesh corn selected by Dongyang Maize Research Institute, has glutinous kernels (75%), sweetkernels (25%) and black kernels (75%),white kernels (25%) in the same ear at the same time,and truly is a colorful sweet-waxy corn with sweet, fragrant and sticky features. Thecombination participated in corn screening test in Zhejiang province in2009,the average yield(fresh ear)was991.5kg per mu and had a19.4%increase compared with the control—Suyunuo2. The growth peirod was80.5days,and0.8day earlier than the control. The combination has a193.3cm plant height,63.9cm ear height,23.3%double-ears rate,0.0%empty straw rate,0.0%lodging rate,0.0%down and discount rate,19.0cm ear length,4.8cm ear diameter,0.7cm baldtip,14.7rows per ear,30.2grains per line,370.5g of fresh1000seeds weight,70.7%seed rate,75.1%net spike rate, and275.9g weight per ear. The amylose content was2.2%. Thecomprehensive score was80.9by evaluating sensory quality and cooking quality and0.9pointshigher than the control. Among the cooking quality, the indexes of waxy, soft and pericarpthickness scores belonged to the top position in all test varieties.5.According to the reports,these three varieties (combinations) have not only high yield,but also better quality,high growing economic benefits and market acceptance, and bettercultivation techniques to master. Birelfy, they are the ideal varieties for fresh corn. Among them,the demonstration and promotion of Zhetian6and Zhenuoyu5were supported by agirculturaltransformation funded project of Zhejiang Province and promotion project of Zhejiang Academyof Agricultural Sciences. Therefore, these vaireties have good prospects for application anddevelopment as long as accelerating the demonstration and promotion.
