Waxy corn that is a subspecies of Zea mays is controlled by wx gene. Currently, waxy corn and its processing products are increasingly received by consumers.The study presented corresponding solution based on numerous bottleneck problems such as low yield due to deterioration of original varieties, unmatched production techniques for new varieties, poor quality of ear, general commodity performance, failing to reach non-pollution product standard due to high accumulation of toxic chemical residue.1. Recurrent selection is used to create improved population and to extend genetic basis of waxy corn. More than sixty of waxy corn materials including naturally pollinated varieties, single cross hybrid and double cross hybrid, were grouped into four populations ZJND-N01-ZJND-N04 in spring,1996, in Hangzhou, based on differences in mature period and morphological indices including stem intensity, root intensity, corn leaf spot, green leaf period, single ear weight, plant height, ear position, leaf erection and plant type. Typical plant lines were selected and reproduced by mixed pollen with continuous multiple generation, and non-elite plant lines were removed. After combining ability test, selected plant lines were separated in 1998.2. In 1998, some lines that were selected from ZJND-N01 and ZJND-N03 population, respectively, and self-crossed. Two waxy inbred lines, W10-315 and W12-621, with strongly erect leaves, compact plant type, high combining ability, high yield and high amount of seed production, were obtained according to pedigree method of self-cross segregation and selected lines. A new hybrid was made by combination of W10-315 as female parental and W12-621 as male parental, which was named "Zhefengnuo No.3". "Zhefengnuo No.3" is a single-cross hybrid of waxy corn with white grain, which displays strong field growth potential, stable and uniform agronomic traits, better yielding ability, better appearance quality of flesh ear and better quality with integrated score of organoleptic quality and cooking quality to 83.9, which is 1.5 higher than control, Suyunuo No.1. In 2005-2006 regional trial of Zhejiang province, Zhefengnuo No.3 had 756.6 kg per 667 m2, which significantly increased 13.09%than Suyunuo No.1. In 2007 regional trial of Zhejiang province waxy corn, Zhefengnuo No.3 had 851.9 kg per 667 m2, which significantly increased 25.3%than Suyunuo No.l. In Nov.2007, Zhefengnuo No.3 was registered by the Zhejiang Crop Cultivar Registration Board.3. Effect of parental row ratio, seeding time phase difference, and field density on yield and quality of seed production was investigated. The results showed that It was suitable for corn seed production to choose field density with 4000-4400 plants per 667 m2, male and female parental row ratio 1:5, male and female parental with different seeding time, which male parental was firstly seeded and then female parental was seeded until shoot appearance of male parental (Approximately 4-5 days after sowing).4. Standardized matching cultural techniques and operation rule of Zhefengnuo No.3 were made according to the results of matching cultural trials.5. New efficient ecological agriculture model of Intercropping, interplant and crop rotation cultural techniques and complementary and symbiosis virtuous circle of fresh corn and hot pepper "Huangying" in 2008-2009 was investigated. The results showed that Zhefengnuo No.3 had thick and strong straw, good pollen fall, better performance of stigma receptivity and non-or few ear barren tip, which grain yield per 667 m2 was 1056.8 kg, increased 24.2% than single cross hybrid of waxy corn (850.9 kg). Damage rate of fresh corn by Ostrinia nubilalis and the bald rate significantly reduced as compared with control. Under higher density, edge effect of Zhefengnuo No.3 was significantly better than Sunyunuo 2 and Meiyu No.8, yield of three varieties increased 24.2%,16.7%and 22.4%, respectively. Hot pepper "Huangying" yield per 667 m2 increased 9.0%than control. Zhefengnuo No.3 has thick and strong straw, which can act as a stand for vegetable sprawled pea that is spring sown and fall harvested. It can save over 760 RMB of stand materials and labor expense.
