The Sustainable Development Study Of Food Security And Soil Quality In Jiaxing City

Agriculture is the foundation of the national economy, and the food security has attracted great attention of international community. This paper objectively analyzes the the situation of grain supply and demand and the problems faced by food security, and stresses the necessary to solve the food security problem in such a large population country. Jiaxing city is located in the north coastal of Zhejiang province, where the contradiction of a big population and limited plow land stands out. In recent years, the total grain output in Jiaxing has been stagnant with the adjustment of cropping structure and the degradation of the soil fertility quality. Therefore, in this study, we set forward a number of practical methods for protecting the farmland quality through studying the contradiction between supply and demand of the grain production since90’s of last century in Jiaxing city and the change of the Jiaxing city soil quality. We expect that our research may contribute to the development of grain production of Jiaxing.We discuss the concept of food security, the condition of food production in China and the effect of international situation on food security. On the basis of production and demand condition of food in Jiaxing, we reach the conclusion that the farm land quality is the key point of food production. We discuss the farm land quality development of Jiaxing in past60years and find the overall trend has been increasing. With fast-paced urbanization, Jiaxing City had implemented land consolidation and constructed standard farmlands. But the soil fertility quality of the new standard farmland is not very high. Continuous cropping obstacles in green-house and soil pollution have become more serious.We predict the food security and farm land condition in Jiaxing and present our recommendations. The key point of food security is to ensure the quantity and quality of farm land. Enhancing improved seed, efficient agricultural skills and farm mechanization can increase food production. We also appeal to stage policies and measurements to ensure food security.
