In order to study the effects of altitude on the characteristics of flue-cured tobacco quality and style, this study choosed14typical tobacco planting counties for the sampling sites, and was divided into2typical tobacco producing areas according to the main meteorological factors, the topography observingcharacteristics and the tobacco evaluating characteristics, one of the areas is Guizhou typical tobaccoproducing area, another is Wuling typical tobacco producing area. In this research, we studied theeffects of altitude on the nutrient contents of soil, the agronomic characters, the physical characters, theappearance quality, the chemical components and sensory quality of tobacco. Fully recognized theimportant role of altitude in the formation of the characteristics of flue-cured tobacco quality and style, which can provided a reference for the planning of tobacco planting area and building a associatedevaluating index system between the ecological factors and the characteristics of flue-cured tobaccoquality and style. The main results were as follows:(1)In the indexes of soil nutrient contents in Guizhou tobacco producing area, the contents of soilorganic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus and alkaline hydrolysis nitrogen showed extremelysignificant positive correlation with the altitude, the content of the available potassium showedsignificant positive correlation with the altitude, the soil pH showed significant negative correlationwith the altitude. In the indexes of tobacco agronomic characters, the stem circumference showedsignificant positive correlation with the altitude, and the plant height showed extremely significantnegative correlation with the altitude. In the indexes of the physical characters, the equilibrium moisturecontent of tobacco leaf showed extremely significant positive correlation with the altitude, the leafweight, width and length showed extremely significant negative correlation with the altitude. In theindexes of the tobacco leaf chemical components, the contents of total sugar and reducing sugar showedextremely significant positive correlation with the altitude, the contents of total nitrogen and nicotineshowed extremely significant negative correlation with the altitude. With the increasing of altitude, theappearance quality showed an increasing trend, and the sensory quality didn’t show an obvious change.(2)In the indexes of soil nutrient contents in Wuling tobacco producing area, the contents of soiltotal nitrogen, total phosphorus and alkaline hydrolysis nitrogen showed extremely significant positivecorrelation with the altitude, the content of the organic matter showed significant positive correlationwith the altitude, the soil pH showed negative correlation with the altitude, but didn’t reach significantlevel. In the indexes of tobacco agronomic characters, the stem circumference showed significantpositive correlation with the altitude, and the plant height showed significant negative correlation withthe altitude. In the indexes of the physical characters, the equilibrium moisture content of tobacco leafshowed extremely significant positive correlation with the altitude, the leaf weight and length showedextremely significant negative correlation with the altitude. In the indexes of the tobacco leaf chemicalcomponents, the contents of total sugar and reducing sugar showed extremely significant positivecorrelation with the altitude, the contents of total nitrogen and nicotine showed extremely significant negative correlation with the altitude. The appearance quality and the sensory quality didn’t showsignificant correlation with the altitude, with the increasing of altitude, the appearance quality showedan increasing trend, and the sensory quality didn’t show an obvious change. In general, in both Guizhou typical tobacco producing area (800-1800m) and Wuling typicaltobacco producing area (500-1300m), with the increasing of the altitude, the contents of soil organicmatter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus and alkaline hydrolysis nitrogen increased significantly; the plantheight decreased, the stem circumference enlarged, the leaf area in different parts decreased; theequilibrium moisture content of leaf increased, the leaf weight, width and length decreased; theappearance quality became better; the contents of total sugar, reducing sugar in tobacco leaves increased, the contents of total nitrogen, nicotine in tobacco leaves decreased; in different producing area, theeffects of altitude on the sensory quality was not obvious.
