The Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenée) is a major kind of pest in corn field which canlead to the decrease of the maize production and serious economic loss. As one of theuseful control methods, the synthetic sex pheromone method has been widely appliedfor its strong selectivity, high sensitivity, no-toxicity, no pollution or resistance. Thecore of this method is the synthesis of the pheromone (Z-12-14:OAc, E-12-14:OAc)of the Asian Corn Borer. Although many synthetic methods have been reported, thereare still many disadvantages and problems, such as too long synthetic routes, toomuch cost, too low yield, etc. Thus it is of much significance to explore the economicand effective synthetic method in order to make this technique better applied toeffectively prevent and control the Ostrinia furnacalis. It is reported that somewidespread plant volatile odor materials in corn field are attractive to the moth tosome extent. Therefore it is possible to explore the synergistic effect between thecommon volatile ordor materials and the sex pheromone to improve the attractiveeffect. This research studies the new effective synthesis of the sex pheromone of theOstrinia furnacalis to reduce the synthetic cost and increase the yield; the best Z:Eratio, stimulating dosage and synergistic compounds are studied to improve theactivity of sex pheromone. This essay mainly contains these experiments andcorresponding results:1. The efficient synthesis of the sex pheromone (Z、E-12-14:OAc). Using thesynthetic strategy of [13C+1C], with the cheap industrial brassylic acid as startingmaterial, through five steps: the carboxyl reduction, acetylation, PCC oxidation,Wittig condensation and configuration inversion, the target compounds are obtained by the total yield of40%.2. The bioassay of the pheromone is studied by the EAG technique. The beststimulating dosage to the male moth is10μg and the best Z:E ratio is1:1.3. The synergistic effect between the pheromone and five common volatilecompounds in corn field is studied. These five volatile odor compounds(benzaldehyde, phenylacetaldehyde, leaf alcohol (cis-3-hexenol), anti-2-hexyleneglycol and corn oil) can improve the biological activity of the pheromone, and leafalcohol has the little stronger synergistic effect among them.
