| Objective: Objective To investigate the expression and correlation of phosphataseand tensin homologue deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN), Survivin and Ki-67inhuman thymic tissue,thymic tumors and thymic cancer, and their possible role in tumorsgenesis, infiltration and metastasis.Methods: The expression of PTEN, Survivin and Ki-67were detected by usingQuick immunohistochemistry methods in8cases of thymic tissue,44cases thymictumors and10cases thymic cancer.Results:1)The result of PTEN’expressionIn8cases of normal thymic tissue,5cases are strongly positive, the positive ratiois62.5%. In6cases of type A thymic tumors,3cases are positive, the positive ratio is50%. In10cases of type B1thymic tumors,3cases are positive, the positive ratio is30%.In10cases of type B2thymic tumors,2cases are positive, the positive ratio is20%. In9cases of type B3thymic tumors,2cases are positive, the positive ratio is22.2%. In9cases of type AB thymic tumors,3cases are positive, the positive ratio is33.3%. In44cases of thymic tumors,11cases are positive, the positive ratio is25%. Allof10thymic cancer are negative.2)The result of Ki-67’expressionAll of8normal thymic tissue are negative. In6cases of type A thymic tumors,1cases is positive, the positive ratio is16.7%. In10cases of type B1thymic tumors,6cases are positive, the positive ratio is60%. In10cases of type B2thymic tumors,6cases are positive, the positive ratio is60%. In9cases of type B3thymic tumors,6cases are positive, the positive ratio is66.7%. In9cases of type AB thymic tumors,4cases are positive, the positive ratio is44.4%. In44cases of thymic tumors,22cases arepositive, the positive ratio is50%. All of10thymic cancer are positive 3)The result of Survivin’expressionAll of8normal thymic tissue are negative. In6cases of type A thymic tumors,2cases is positive, the positive ratio is33.3%. In10cases of type B1thymic tumors,5cases are positive, the positive ratio is50%. In10cases of type B2thymic tumors,6cases are positive, the positive ratio is60%. In9cases of type B3thymic tumors,6casesare positive, the positive ratio is66.7%. In9cases of type AB thymic tumors,4casesare positive, the positive ratio is44.4%. In44cases of thymic tumors,23cases arepositive, the positive ratio is52.3%. In cases of10thymic cancer,8cases are positive,the positive ratio is80%.The positive ratio of PTEN are significantly reduced from the normal thymic tissueto the thymic cancer by statistics, A statistically significant difference (χ2=9.488P=0.009). Whereas,the positive ratio of Ki-67are significantly increased from thenormal thymic tissue to the thymic cancer by statistics, A statistically significantdifference (χ2=18.023P=0.001). The positive ratio of Survivin are significantlyincreased from the normal thymic tissue to the thymic cancer by statistics, Astatistically significant difference (χ2=12.847P=0.002). In different types of thymictumors,from type A–type AB-type B1-type B2to type B3,PTEN positive cases werenegatively correlated with Ki-67and Survivin (r=-0.384P=0.002). Ki-67positivecases were positively correlated with Survivin in thymic tumors (r=0.537P=0.001).Conclusions: Reduced and absent PTEN and increased Ki-67and Survivinexpression might play an important role in the genesis, invasiveness and metastasis ofthymic tumors. The expression of PTEN is strongly associated with the expression ofabnormal Ki-67and Survivin. Detection of three protein expressions simultaneouslymight be more helpfui in making an early diagnosis of the tumors judgement of theirsmalignant degree, invasiveness and metastasis capacity, as well as the prognosis. |
