Salvia przewalskii Maxim., a kind of perennial herbaceous plants, belongs to Lamiaceae, Salvia Linn. and the dry roots and rhizome were considered as a traditional folk medicine, which has the efficacy of activating collateral flow and stopping pain, promoting blood circulation and restoring menstrual flow, easing the disturbed state of mind in clinical practice. It’s widely distributed in western Gansu, southwestern Sichuan, northwestern Yunnan, southwestern Qinghai Provinces, southwestern Tibet and parts of Hubei Province in China. There are three variants that Salvia przewalskii var. mandarinorum (Diels) E. Peter, var. glabrescens E. Peter, var. alba X. L. Huang&H. W. Li, and the large circulation on market are the original variant. With the gradually increase of market demand, the unevenness of quality about Salvia przewalskii Maxim. has significant influence on the sustainable utilization of the medicinal material resources. Therefore, the main purpose was to analyse the differences in chemical composition by investigating the resources in southwest China, which could provide the oretical basis for the effective use of Salvia przewalskii Maxim.. The main research results are as follows:1. By using HPLC-UV, the Chemical fingerprint was set up under the optimized extracted method and chromatographic conditions, which concluded27common peaks. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the27common peaks was0-0.48%, which indicated all the samples were with high consistency. The RSD of the27common peaks was31.37%-153.7%, which indicated the difference in the content of chemical component was significant among the different groups. Regarding the NO.7peak as the reference peak to caculate relative peak area and standard deviation. The results of principal component analysis and cluster analysis shown that all samples collected from 14arears divided into three groups. The samples collected from the same province were not clustered into one group, and there was some difference among the elevation of samples in the three groups, so the elevation was considered as the significant impact factor for variation.2. The result of simultaneous determination for eight bioactive components using HPLC-UV shown that:for water-soluble components, the content of rosmarinic acid was in the range of8.72mg/g to35.4mg/g; the content of salvia aci B was in the range of2.20mg/g to18.2mg/g; the content of salvia aci A was in the range of0.0300mg/g to3.83mg/g; the content of protocatechualdehyde was in the range of0.0300mg/g to0.220mg/g. For liposoluble constituents, the content of Tanshinone ⅡA was in the range of1.11mg/g to11.4mg/g; the content of Tanshinone Ⅰ was in the range of0.560mg/g to5.22mg/g; the content of cryptotanshinone was in the range of1.12mg/g to3.97mg/g; the content of dihydrotanshinone was in the range of0.190mg/g to3.48mg/g. And there has no significant difference in the content of water-soluble components, but has significant difference in the content of liposoluble constituents among all samples.3. The results about the antioxidant activity of the alcohol extract from the root of each samples indicated that when the concentration of each extract was0.3mg/mL, the samples from Tongren have the highest inhibition rate for DPPH-(93.41%), the lowest was Luhuo County (32.42%); when the concentration of each extract was0.6mg/mL, the reducing power of samples from Tongren County was the highest, the lowest was Mangkang County; when the concentration of each extract was240μg/mL, the samples from Deqin County have the highest inhibition rate for superoxide anion (72.35%), the lowest was Luhuo County (35.37%). The results about the content of total phenol and flavonoids shown that the content of total phenol was in the range of198.3mg/g gallic acid to604.0mg/g gallic acid, and the content of total flavonoids was in the range of48.84mg/g rutin to196.7mg/g rutin. Meanwhile, the content of total phenol has correlation with the reducing power and the scavenging ability for DPPH-, while the content of total flavonoid has correlation with the scavenging ability for superoxide anion.4. The result of six kinds of inorganic element (Ca, Cu, Fe, Mg and Mn) in all samples by using atomic absorption spectrometry indicated that there was significant difference in the content of the six inorganic elements within a year. The content of Ca and Fe have descended, the content of Mg has increased, while the content among Cu, Mn and Zn have no significant difference.
