Dong Qizhang is known as "Hong Kong’s most important Mesozoic writer".As an authentic Hong Kong local writer who was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Hong Kong,he has witnessed the period of Hong Kong’s economic boom and the social changes in Hong Kong before and after the return. The current situation and social changes in Hong Kong have a profound impact on Dong Qizhang’s creation.Hong Kong literature has a tendency to view the world with "things".From Liu Yichang’s experiments on "thing novels" in the late 1960 s to the "materialized world" created by Han Lizhu in the early 21 st century,Hong Kong writers have always been full of a strong desire for exploration and enthusiasm for writing things.Dong Qizhang’s works are also full of man-made and natural objects closely related to the Hong Kong city.Through the analysis and research of various objects in his works,we can not only see an aesthetically ghostly Hong Kong city, but also discover a unique urban writing mode, which provides a new perspective for us to understand the city and the material in the city. This article aims to summarize Dong Qizhang’s emotional implication and creative ideas behind "material writing" by combining the theoretical knowledge of sociology and philosophy as well as existing research results in a textual perusal. The introduction part analyzes the role of Hong Kong urban culture in promoting "material writing",and comments on the current state of research of Dong Qizhang’s works. The main body is divided into three chapters: the first chapter analyzes the complicated relationship between people and things in the process of materialization of the city, based on Lukacs’ s "materialization" theory;the second chapter starts with the physicality of the body, discussing the contradiction between humans and the external world that is difficult to reconcile on the physical level;the third chapter uses the two keywords of "manufacture" and "action" as clues to analyze what kind of literary views the writer expresses through the writing of objects, and affirms the value of the writer’s creation.
