Objectively, there are considerable amounts of homographs between Chinese andJapanese. In learning Chinese and Japanese vocabularies, homographs are not only the“bridge” for Japanese students to learn Chinese and Chinese students to learn Japanese, butalso the “obstacle” for them. In particular, Chinese-Japanese synonyms, with certaindifferences among similarities and complicacy, become the major reason why errors arecaused by the negative transfer of mother tongue when students from China and Japan learnthe language of the other country.Among Chinese-Japanese homographs, double-syllable words account for the largestproportion. Particularly, the use of verbs is most complicated, for which most errors appear.By consulting authoritative Chinese-Japanese dictionaries, the author strives to classify alltwo-word verb synonyms of homographs among all level A and B vocabularies from“Chinese Proficiency Test HSK (Elementary) Outline”, comparatively analyzing theirmeanings in dictionaries one by one. From the analysis, it is found that these verbs can begenerally divided into three categories, namely homographs with more meanings in Chinesethan those in Japanese, homographs with more meanings in Japanese than those in Chinese,and homographs with the same and different meanings. Meanwhile, this paper forecasts thedifficulties for Chinese and Japanese students to learn these vocabularies and errors that mayemerge. Besides, the author collects some vocabulary errors of Japanese and Chinese students,verifying previous forecasts of errors, analyzing and sorting out errors. After investigatingerrors, it is found that the forecast accuracy for errors in Chinese-Japanese two-word verbsynonyms with homographs is pretty high, which indicates that the error forecast is feasible in most cases and the difficulties to learn synonyms of homographs can be identified. In addition,it is discovered that errors and difficulties are distributed according to rules. Finally, theauthor proposes some pertinent suggestions for teachers’ teaching and students’ learning ofChinese-Japanese synonyms of homographs as well as compilation of teaching materials andcorpus construction pursuant to the rules discovered during research.
