The Two Kinds Of Expression Of Modernity

The paper chooses the urban creation in1930s as the object of study, and selects therepresentative writers like Jiang Guangci and Mu Shiying as important reference, andinvestigates two kinds of expression of modernity by the means of intensive text reading andcomparative analysis. The full text is divided into three parts for discussion.In the first part, the paper focus on reappearing general situation of Shanghai metropolis in the1930s, and analyzing the time and space factors of Shanghai Style Literature. Then in order toclear up the relationship between Shanghai Style Literature and Modernity, it explains themeaning of Modernity during the metropolitan context. Finally it takes Left-wing Literature andNew-sensationalist Literature as representative to clarify the interfluve of modernity in ShanghaiStyle Literature.In the second part, through analyzing the subaltern text of Jiang Guangci and Mu Shiying, wefind that both the subaltern depiction and the pursuit of violence narration reveal different pursuitof modernity.In the third part, we aware that there is tremendous difference among the imagination of urbancivilization, the interpretation of female body and the description of male images by discussingthe urban text of Jiang Guangci and Mu Shiying, and two of them have made up different aspectsof urban modernity.Concluding remarks, this part summarizes the context of this article, and RevolutionaryModernity will act a savior of Urban Modernity through the literature development trend.
