2011was the milestone of the history of TV documentary in China.On onehand,CCTV launched the Documentary Channel in both English and Chinese in60different areas and countries,and became the first national television documentarybroadcast platform in China.On the other hand,a brand new show,Charm·Record, beganto on screen of CCTV-1at22:30every Monday through Friday,which was the first timespecifically open a documentary program in mainstream medium CCTV-1.Shortly afterthis, A Bite of China, an independently produced documentary by CCTV-9taking13months across60different areas and provinces, launched in Charm·Record on May14th,2012. its novelty view of choosing materials, unique way of narration and creativemethod of propaganda, made this documentary catch a unprecedented attention and wona great response in the whole society. Also, pulling numbers of audiences back to thefront of TV.Therefore, much can be learned from this successful case, whichconsequentially can be used as a very good example for coming documentaries.The paper mainly analysis The Bite of China in two aspects, visual-audio symbolsand media promotion.In the first part, combine Chinese traditional factors in the workto analyze the function of character when comparing the two examples under thesemiotics perspective. The second part of the analysis on media promotion, illustratingthe effects and influence of media environment on human beings according its theory.More over, further analyze the significant of media function to the promotion andpropaganda of the works. Finally, sum up from three aspects, creative concepts, workconnotation and promotive propaganda, hoping that coming up practical guidance overdetailed analyses on the success of this program for the future development of televisiondocumentaries at the background of media convergence.
