The research topic of this paper is about the animation on ethnic minorities. Animation is a kind of time and spatial art containing a variety of such artistic categories as gather literature, art, music, movie, digital media, comic, film and so on. The animation on ethnic minorities has been playing an important role in Chinese cartoon development as one family member of Chinese minority animation. Having decades of development history, the animation on ethnic minorities did start late, but it does present its existence on its own particularity and indispensability. It enriches Chinese minority animation history with its unique colorful characteristics and has made its own contribution to the Chinese animation development.This Paper consists of six chapters. The first Chapter is an introduction mainly to the research background, significance, literary review, problems, research methods, etc. Chapter two is about the origin and development of animation. Then it comes to the definition of the animation on ethnic minorities as well as the development trend. Chapter four does the problem analysis confronting in the development and states the concern to the future development. The last part concludes the author’s opinion on the development trend of the animation on ethnic minorities.Research on the animation on ethnic minorities seldom wins public attraction due to its marginal characteristics and lacks theory application so seriously that you can hardly find its trace in some works. This paper first introduces the origin of animation and the brief development histories of a few typical animated cartoons which are greatly acknowledged by public. The comparative analysis between several cartoon works mainly on Mongolian animation will be carried out from different perspectives such as national culture, folk culture, national spirit, regional condition. The research mentions three cartoons produced by Shanghai animation film studio of the little sisters in grassland, the amazing Mongolian horses and the Mongolian epic warrior plus Balgensang legend which was produced in inner Mongolian region. The analysis of these works points out the advantage of developing the animation on ethnic minorities.Though the animated cartoon on Inner Mongolia minority is just in the primary stage of development having not been able to make a hit, it is definitely on its way to a new era of national animation.
