The Study Of The Evolution Of Common Words In Ancient Chinese

The studies on the history of Chinese words are more poor than other, especially for middle ancient times. Luckily, being supported and promoted by large of scholars in recent years, they have become prosperous. Furthermore, they have many achievements in fixing ancient books and lexicographical books. In the previous period, the studies focused on the words which are in the traditional exegetics are jerky and common, but ignored common words. As the footstone and an important part of the whole language system, the studies of common words are necessary conditions of exploring how to make the transition from the antediluvian Chinese to modern Chinese and how the modern Chinese build up. We have to say why Chinese lexicology is more different from traditional exegetics. Through the study of common words, we can understand the lexical feature in the same period, in order to lay solid and strong foundation for the division of lexical history into historical periods.The paper focused on the change of expression in the evolution of ancient Chinese words. Moreover, the date of generation, the structure of words, and the usage of them in all ages and the skeleton of evolution were carefully combed, so that we can strive to make an exhaustive study on evolution of the common words. The paper is mainly divided into three parts. The first part shows the review of the entire Chinese lexical history and the presentation of meaning of the common words. We still explain the problems that will arise in the writing process and the solution we might use. The second part is the main component of paper. It chooses six groups of the common ancient words to illustrate and explains the replacement of common words from a historical standpoint. Through the description of the usage at different stages, we will seize the entire clue of the evolution eventually and summarize roughly rule from the development of the ancient words. The third part is the conclusion which summarizes the rule of the evolution of the common words from the phenomenon of them and recognizes inevitability of the transition from the old to the new from language development.The study of the evolution of the common Chinese words is an important part of Chinese history. It requires us to explore the evolution of common words and summarize the law of them, so it has great significance.
