Mongolian silverware as both carrier and identity of the Mongolian culture tells the development of Mongolian history. Back to the Yuan Dynasty, Mongolian was known by using silverware. The craft of silver products in Yuan Dynasty reached its peak, which created a splendid civilization. At present, the researches about silverware used in Yuan Dynasty are done by archeology mainly on the analysis of their shape, patterns and craft. The current literature about ancient prairie gold and silver utensils and utensils used during the Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties consist of the basis of this thesis.In this thesis, the analysis of historical documents, archaeological literature analysis and comparison are used as way of analysis, while fieldwork is used as a complement. this thesis will work on the embodied cultural value delivered by the silverware shape and pattern; furthermore, the author will show its making process and way of expression from the perspective of craft techniques to provide some technical reference for present silver production. Additionally, the thesis still summarize the cultural implements of the Mongolian silverware in order to open the window for understanding its cultural origins, inheritance and innovation based on the pattern aesthetic. Based on this, this thesis attempts to find out the reasons for the obsession of silverware of Mongolian, and several points have been made as followed: First of all, there were a number of silver shape and patterns during Yuan dynasty which led the mass mining of the silver. This is provides the material foundation for Mongolian’s silver culture. For instance the sliver monetary police on the one hand and the civil started to use both gold and silver for their own which consists the constitutional condition for its silver obsession. Secondly, Mongolian is a unique steppe people which have their own special ethnic customs and religious belief, working as the spiritual pillar of its obsession.The development of Mongolian Silverware in Yuan Dynasty is a culmination and innovation of prior development, which reflects the multiple culture combination. It is a way to express people’s feeling, way of thinking, moral ideas and aesthetic tastes on the one hand and cultivates a firm cultural foundation for a special people on the other which gradually form the characteristics of Mongolian silverware, an amazing work of art.
