The Research On The System Of English Teaching Materials For General Purposes In Higher Vocational Schools

With the rapid development of reform and opening-up and economicglobalization, our country needs more and more versatile and practical English talents.The construction of teaching materials for higher vocational schools (HVS) is facedwith great challenges. The materials for HVS have to be developed and improvedbecause of the requirements of the times and practical needs of students’ development.The system of teaching materials for HVS is an integrated system. It includes Englishmaterials for general purposes and special purposes. Lots of national and internationalexperts research on the system of materials for HVS. But the materials used at highervocational schools now have a lot of problems, so do the English teaching materialsfor general purposes. This thesis, the author mainly analyzes English materials forgeneral purpose for HVS.The paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction. Itfocuses on the reasons for the topic selection, the purposes and significance of thestudy, main content, research methods, and definitions of the related concepts as well.The second chapter reviews the theoretical bases, including the related theories of theEnglish teaching materials in higher vocational education. The third chapter analyzesthe problems of the English teaching materials for general purposes in HVS, and thereasons for them. The fourth chapter elaborates on the five aspects in the reform ofEnglish teaching materials for general purposes, which are the choice of materials, thecontent of materials, the compilation of materials, teaching resources, the adjustmentand selection of materials. The writer suggests taking the following reform measures:establishing rigorous system of material selection, compiling professional andpractical materials, ensuring the diversity of materials compilers, enriching teachingmaterials and reexploiting materials. The last chapter is the conclusion of the wholedissertation.
