With the rapid development of economy and trade, countries around the world havemade a great achievement in local trade and economy development, and now they areturning to other countries and regions. Therefore, cooperations between countries andregions are becoming more. As a large developing country, China can not miss thisopportunity to develop its own economy. After the reform and opening up, Chinese tradeand economy keep running in an unprecedented speed to strive for a place in theeconomic tide. Nowadays, China has got more and more attention from all over theworld. In the meantime, there are more and more countries and regions trying to build agood trade relationship with China.But, to some degree, trades between China and other countries can be held up due tothe culture and language differences. For this reason, how to make the two partiescommunicate better and reach an agreement in a business negotiation has become anoutstanding point. The man who can finish this tough job is an interpreter. Simpletransition between words can not achieve this goal. It needs an interpreter’s rich culturalbackground, knowledge on business negotiation and excellent interpretation methods.Many translation schools own their theories on how to make good translations, one ofwhich is the Functionalism. Functionalism asks interpreters not to interpret word by word.Instead, it asks them to be loyal to the source language centered by target language.This thesis consists of three parts, namely an introduction, the main body and aconclusion.Introduction makes a brief introduction to the research on Functionalism from bothhome and abroad. It also elaborates the purpose of this thesis and the great impact of theresearch on both theory and actual life.The second part includes three chapters.Chapter One is the literature review. It mainly makes an introduction toFunctionalism and business negotiation interpreting. Chapter one can be divided into twoparts. One is an overview of Functionalism listing the representatives and views ofFunctionalism while another one is an introduction to business negotiation interpreting.Chapter Two presents the impact of Functionalism on business negotiation interpreting and the requirements for interpreters. Distinguished from the first chapter,Chapter Two will focus on the business negotiation interpreting to tell the readers whatbusiness negotiation interpreting is and what bills interpreters should fill. Moreover, thischapter tells the relationship between the theory and the practice, namely the guidance tobusiness negotiation interpreting by Functionalism. It attaches great importance to theSkopos Theory and Faithfulness.Finally, it comes to the ultimate goal of this thesis—tactics to enhance the businessnegotiation interpreting. In the third chapter, the author will offer some interpretingmethods under the guidance of Functionalism.Chapter Two and Chapter Three are the corn parts of this thesis which elaborate therelation between Functionalism and business negotiation interpreting and the copingtactics on business negotiation interpreting. The most difficult part is to elaborate theguidance from Functionalism to business negotiation interpreting and how it improvesthe interpreting in actual life.The last part makes a conclusion on the previous studies.In a business negotiation interpreting, one can meet various kinds of difficultiesincluding cultural and language differences. However, to achieve an agreement onbusiness negotiation, interpreters, as a communication bridge, must finish their jobssuccessfully under the guidance of Functionalism. In a word, in order to get thenegotiation finished, interpreters must achieve a proper and reasonable interpreting inline with the target language under the guidance of Functionalism.
