Translation is an important academic field in all countries. Nowadays, eachtranslation theory has its own strong points and academic values. Functionalism, asone imperative part in the field of translation, has become a leading theory around theworld, helping the whole area step forward.The author of this paper is always interested in business negotiation interpreting.After the study on Functionalism, she found that this theory could function as acrucial theoretical guidance to business negotiation interpreters. Business negotiationinterpreting serves as an imperative part in the interpreting field, being more difficultfor interpreters to work in. Functionalism, as a theoretical guidance, not onlyencourages business negotiation interpreters to adopt flexible tactics in order toachieve communicative purposes, but also reminds them of doing the work on thetrack, which plays an important role in the development and progress of interpretingquality and efficiency in business negotiation.In this paper, the author has given a brief introduction to previous studies onFunctionalism and business negotiation interpreting. Then in the second chapter, theauthor has offered a further elaboration on Functionalism and Business negotiationinterpreting, in order to give readers a clearer picture and to lay a solid foundation forthe following parts of the paper. The next chapter is the key point and the difficult partthrough the whole paper. In this chapter, the author has talked about what effluencesFunctionalism has exerted to business negotiation interpreting and how the theorymakes it by presenting practical cases and examples. The most important part of thepaper is the fourth chapter. Based on Functionalism, interpreting tactics have alsobeen provided for interpreters to improve interpreting quality of business negotiation.Similarly, the author has offered practical cases and examples and made relevantanalysis. Each case has been explained by the author for highlighting the rationalityand feasibility of these mentioned coping tactics. All the contents in this paper serveas reference for all business negotiation interpreters. Although there have been many studiers making a large amount of researcheson the two areas, Functionalism and business negotiation interpreting, in a respectiveway, it is rare to see the combining research liking Functionalism and businessnegotiation interpreting together. The author wishes to establish a liking bridgebetween Functionalism and business negotiation interpreting by her immature studies.Thus interpreters engaged in business negotiation can have related theoreticalguidance from the paper and improve their interpreting quality in businessnegotiation.
