| As a report on international business negotiation interpreting, this thesis describesone interpreting task conducted by the author for the Advertising Video Program of anewly created yacht initiated by Yantai Fuguogaodi Film Cause Co. Ltd. and YantaiCIMC Raffles Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. and compares the original text withinterpreted text of the business negotiation to discuss common difficulties of businessnegotiation interpretation as well as possible coping strategies and solutions.Assuming that the task process consists of “pre-interpreting preparation†and“interpretingâ€, the report divides “pre-interpreting preparation†into two phasesaccording to time order, each with a different focus and function, and presents thetranscript of both the original speech and the author’s interpretation in the part ofinterpreting process, from which typical examples are selected for further analysis fromthree perspectives:(1) handling cultural-specific differences,(2) interpreter’s role inbusiness negotiation interpreting, and (3) handling unknown words and technicalknowledge.Through the task description and analysis, it is found that pre-interpretationpreparation plays a key role in the success of business negotiation which includes thepreparation of unknown words and technical knowledge, as well as getting acquaintancewith two parties’ cultural differences. It is also found that in business negotiation, theinterpreter should play as a coordinator. The final goal of business negotiation is toacquire the largest benefit of both parties which means the interpreter cannot only be aninterpreter, but also be a coordinator who should act flexibly to avoid any possibledisputes, so as to guarantee the success of the negotiation. |
