The original work Tiny Sunbirds, Far Away by Christie Watson was published inLondon in2011. This is a story about Blessing, a little girl who had experienced manyfrustrations such as poverty, war, race conflict and religion, together with her mother andelder brother after the divorce of her parents. This report is based on the translation fromChapter15to Chapter20and written with the guiding principle of Functional Equivalencetheory.There are totally four parts in this report: Firstly, description of this translating project,including introduction of the writer and introduction of the work; secondly, preparation beforetranslating, including analyzing the language features of the original work, collecting ofmaterials and preparation of guiding principle; thirdly, analysis of the translating process,including grasping of the language features of the original work and usage of translationstrategies; fourthly, practicing summary, including the signification of literary translationand translators’ qualities. In the translating process, Functional Equivalence has been used asguiding principle, which helps to make the translated text more expressive and more fluent.
