| This thesis includes an English-Chinese translation text and a related translation report. The source texts,My Pet Show Panic and My Treasure Hunt Trouble, are selected from Humphrey’s Tiny Tales series written by Betty G.Birney.My Pet Show Panic tells about the experiences and adventures of the classroom pet Humphrey on the pet show.My Treasure Hunt Trouble is a story about the lost treasure found by Humphrey. These stories are short but amazing and interesting for children. The texts contain many rhetoric devices and coined words. The words and sentences are simple and easy for children. In this report,27 typical cases were analyzed, focusing on the lexical translation, stylistic translation and rhetoric device translation. The translation practice is guided by the Skopos Theory put forward by Vermeer,in the light of the three rules of the Skopos Theory. To get natural expressions closed to the original texts and therefore enhance the readability of the translated texts,a child-centered translation strategy conforming to children’s reading habits in language features was adopted.Gains in the translation of children’s literature through this translation practice were summarized as follows.Spoken words, short sentences, vivid expressions and diverse rhetoric devices might be helpful to reproduce features such as attractive and imaginative of children’s literature. At the lexical level, translators are suggested to understand possible meanings of polysemous words according to the context, and use initiative to translate words coined by the author. At the stylistic level, modal particles, reduplicated words and four-character phrases are advised to be used.At the rhetoric device level, the same or similar rhetoric devices with the source texts could be considered. |
