| This report is based on the translation practice of Tiny habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything(Introduction and Chapter 1),published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company in 2019.BJ Fogg, the author,is a human behavior scientist BJ Fogg. The source text states that building habits and creating positive change can be easy—if you have the right approach. The approach is a behavior cultivating formula B=MAP.Behavior happens when motivation & ability & prompt converge at the same moment. The selected materials summarized the central idea of the whole book.By reading them, the reader would have a general understanding of the method described, and be interested in further reading.According to the text-typology theory of Peter Newmark, the source text mainly belongs to informative text.Text with informative function is mainly introducing the massage and knowledge in a certain area. The purpose is to promote the communication.According to Eugene A.Nida:translating consists in producing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source-language,first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of style. The core of message is the content. Thus translators shall focus on the transmission of content.Forms which affect the transfer of content should be adjusted to ensure that the reader correctly understand the source text. The principle of this theory coincides with the requirements of informative text translation,so the translator chose this theory as the theoretical basis. The report analyzes and solves the difficulties encountered in translation, including the conversion of part of speech and omission at the lexical level, special combinations and long sentence with complex structure at the syntactic level.Through the study of textual features, parallel texts, translation difficulties and solutions, the translator has deepened his knowledge of informative texts and the translation Theory. His E-C translation ability has also been improved. In addition, the experience and lessons in this translation practice can also be used as a reference for future translation studies related to such kind of texts. |
