China is an ancient country with a long history of ifve thousand years. Inthousands of years, a large amount of musical and cultural treasure is accumulated byintelligent people. But after the May4th Movement, an inlfux of western music isintroduced into China, which is considered to be “orthodox music". Though theintroduction of western music to a great degree promotes the development of music ofChina in the20th century, such cognition of music for almost a century affects thedevelopment of Chinese folk music. The ideal dominated by western music penetratesinto all ifelds of society, especially into the music education from professional musiceducation in universities to national basic music education.Fortunately, currently, it is a common sense of many musicians to add the folkmusic element to sight singing in universities, while music major in universities hasspecialty which has a signiifcant effect on the spread of excellent folk music culture.This paper is written from a special perspective of application of Chinese musicpieces in the20th century in the major of sight singing in universities. And content ofsight singing courses of music major in universities is analyzed and explored, thus thenecessity and feasibility of applying Chinese music pieces in the20th century in sightsinging courses of music major in universities are put forward. And the content ofsight singing courses is primarily raised after applying Chinese music pieces in the20th century in sight singing courses of music major in universities. Understandingand grasping Chinese music pieces in the20th century and then applying them intosight singing education is able to let students feel the charm of folk music, thus theculture of folk music can be better spread and the national self-conifdence andnational pride of next generation can be better fostered.
