On Linguistic Features And Translation Strategies Of Maintenance Manual Of Industrial Products From The Perspective Of Functionalist Translation Theory

This paper refers to a report on English translation of Maintenance Manual of Lovol D/1100Series Engines, which belongs to sci-tech text and plays a significant role in promoting the spread and exchange of scientific and technical information. Along with the process of globalization, the translation of Maintenance Manual of Industrial Products is playing an increasingly important role. It will make direct influence on both the correct convey of the information and target readers’ understanding of source texts.The paper attaches importance on linguistic features and translation strategies of Maintenance Manual of Industrial Products from the perspective of Functionalist Translation Theory. Such texts bear distinct linguistic features in terms of words, sentence patterns, and discourse which shall be analyzed in detail in this paper. Meanwhile, this paper adopts the Functionalist Translation Theory as a perspective to study the feasible methods and principles for translating such texts into English. The author holds that the translation of such texts aims at accurately spreading and exchanging the information of source texts, with great importance on the understanding and acceptance of the target readers. Based upon this purpose, the author suggests that the translator should take into consideration the text type and the general translation purposes, take appropriate principles as guidance, and adopt the corresponding strategies. This paper intends to analyze and problems occurring in the translation and come up with corresponding translation methods with examples.
