Teaching Chinese characters is rather boring among learning Chinese as a foreign language. International students usually think there are no regularities and rules in reading, writing and reciting Chinese characters. Therefore, most of them who have to learn Kanji by rote feel like that it is quite difficult to study Chinese characters. They are beginning to be weary of Chinese characters and taking such lessons, especially for the Primary. At the early period of their studying, writing Kanji is often regarded as drawing. They hardly grasp a kind of good and suitable methods to learn. As a result, they cannot write Chinese characters correctly after they have studied for a long while. During writing, they often forget to write kanji radicals or write Kanji in the wrong structure, such as reversing left and right or up and down parts.According to the characteristics of Kanji, the paper will introduce the method of Kanji split which complies with the laws of human memory. The method would play a key and favorable role in studying Chinese characters for foreign students; contributing to encouraging their enthusiasm for learning and making them remember and write Kanji easily. It is extremely important for these students to build the sense of Chinese characters as soon as they can.In this paper, the aim of explaining how to split Chinese characters is to make foreign students learn to put this way creatively into practice. The author put forward her own opinion based on the current split pedagogy, helping these students to familiarize with Chinese characters and resolving the relative problems caused by studying. This is very useful. In addition, some interesting and attractive stories are present to teach students how to split the radicals and structure of Chinese characters. Considering studying interest and teaching need of international students, it is theoretical significant that Kanji split is determined as a method for Chinese language teaching.This paper is described as five parts.Part Ⅰ:The current condition of Chinese language teaching will be analyzed. The main problems are the contradiction the teaching between Chinese characters and Chinese language, and the tangled situation between the presence of teaching Kanji lesson and the depression of studying Kanji for foreign students. So the difficulties of teaching Kanji as a foreign language are dissected in three aspects, including the issues of reading, writing and teaching Chinese characters.Part II:The theoretical basis about the application of Kanji split in teaching will be shown. The background of the research on kanji split and some teaching methods will be analyzed. The three categories will also be introduced as the basic theory of split.Part III:There are some rules concerning the application of Kanji split in teaching. These principles will be clarified in three aspects, that is, the method of stroke input, units split and the overall structure.Part IV:The method of kanji split will be emphasized. Some examples will be given for foreign students to culture their studying habits and teach them how to use kanji split. Five methods of kanji split will be concluded in five aspects. The author hopes that foreign students could improve their abilities to reading, writing and utilizing Chinese characters by learning kanji split.PartV:This part will mainly provide some practice. The independent word split, ideographic character separation and phonetic word split will be analyzed and defined. The relationship between kanji split teaching and culture teaching will be concluded as well.
