Based on sorting and referring to the related researches of predecessors and performing open-ended surveys and interviews,the author designed a questionnaire scale of Chinese reading strategies with certain reliability and validity;meanwhile,the author investigated the reading strategies adopted by students belong to cultural circle of Chinese characters and non-cultural circle of Chinese characters in the environment of target language.At the same time,the author fiirther investigated the influence of gender,grade,and cultural background on the strategy,and the validity of Chinese reading strategies.The data analysis results show that,(1)when reading Chinese,the international students of cultural circle of Chinese characters and non-cultural circle of Chinese characters often adopted strategies of selection,skipping and speculation,rather than interactive strategies.They displayed significant differences in terms of textual concept,adjuster straps,regulation and mother tongue strategies.(2)most of international students within the cultural circle of Chinese characters have textual concept,and they often adopted material selection,mother language,skipping and speculation strategies,rather than regulating,intensive reading and interactive strategies.The international students within the non-cultural circle of Chinese characters has more recognition with textual concept,and they often adopted labeling,skipping and speculation strategies,rather than monitoring,prediction and interactive strategies.(3)they didn't display significant gender differences in the use of Chinese reading strategies,but they displayed differences in grades.There is certain"stage-based" features in the use of Chinese reading strategies.(4)there is very significance positive correlation between the strategies of material selection,focusing and speculation and the achievement of students within cultural circle of Chinese characters.There is significant positive correlation between the hypertext concept and speculation strategy and the achievement of students belonging to non-cultural circle of Chinese characters.There is significant negative correlation between the intensive reading strategy and their achievement.(5)compared with the students of low score group,the students in high score group paid more attention to the speculation strategy,rather than intensive reading strategy.The use of strategies such as material selection,focusing and skipping proved to be effective for reading and understanding of students within cultural circle of Chinese characters,the addition of hypertext elements is helpful to the reading and understanding of students within non-cultural circle of Chinese characters.For the international students belonging to cultural circle of Chinese characters and non-cultural circle of Chinese characters,the features they display in the selection of reading strategies can be explained and described by referring to "Cultural Dimensions" theory of Hofstede.Moreover,the individual interviews have been performed by the author towards those who are successful and unsuccessful in learning reading skills.The results and analysis of quantitative research have been supplemented through the validation of qualitative research results.By combining the features of respondents and specific findings,the education of Chinese reading can be considered and implemented from three perspectives,that is,learning beliefs of reading,material selection and reading strategies training.
