Tang ji has not only existed in the history across a vast field of China, but also carryon in modern society.Lisheng, as the hosts at a Tangji, is one of the important groups inthe rural area.This dissertation chooses the southern of Luoshan in Henan province as the fieldplace. Through the fieldwork, we research the tangji, lisheng and popular text, and makecomparison with other rituals and ritualists. At the same time, the author read a lot ofdocuments so as to grooming what and why people see tangji and lisheng. From thefieldwork and documents, the writer finds out the taboo and tackle when people face thedeath time, therefore knows about the meaning why tangji and lisheng still exist in therural area of modern Luoshan.Finally, based on the theories and methods by which anthropologists and folkloristsstudy the popular beliefs, this dissertation focuses on the concept of yin-yang behind thedeath time among the people of Luoshan.The writer believes that, the culture,can beinherit by humans in Luoshan area, which we still need to discover the meanings andvalues, and wishes to provide a valuable issue for the research of Tangji in other places.This article is divided into introduction, principal part and conclusion. The principalpart includes four chapters.Introduction describes the questions, the methods, the way of the researches andobtaining information, and the research situation both inside and outside.Chapter one, the geography,history and cultural memory of Luoshan.Base on theinformation about natural environment and social environment which get form thefieldwork and document, the writer analysis the qualification how the tangji and lishengemerge and exist.Chapter two describe the tangji and lisheng. The writer Combined the records of thetangji and lisheng with his textual research, try to restore how the people of Luoshanview the tangji and lisheng, and research the deep reasons that they can be themselves.Chapter three, a tangji in the Zhongshan country of Luoshan. The writer use thetheories and methods of folklore to try to record the role and process in tangji. Chapter four analysis the tangji and the death time. The meaning of tangji not onlyin the ritual, but also out of the ritual. The center of the dissertation is the attention aboutthe death time from the people.In the end part, the same propriety in yin and yang:the inherit of tangji culture. Thispart is the rethink about the theory and method. In the study of folklore, we should stresson the comprehensive study both the text and the context. The people focus on the deathtime, have the implication of yin and yang,which require us to research its qualification,values and the future orientation.As a folklorist, ours definitely aims are not merely reserve a sacrifice ritual, but toresearch and interpret it which can still playing an good effect on the popular order in allof the culture internet, and give it a new meaning in the modern society.
