Based on the theory of Dynamic Equivalence proposed by Eugene Nida (1964) and the practice of improving the Chinese-English subtitle translation in I Do, the thesis aims at analyzing and discussing the criteria for C-E subtitle translation, as well as summarizing translating methods and strategies. By going through a considerable number of related documents, examining and bettering the subtitle ofIDo, discussing some relevant theoretical issues and taking the traits of subtitle translation into account, the thesis proposes three criteria for subtitle translation:smoothness, simplicity and refinement. It explains how to be "smooth" by applying the theory of Dynamic Equivalence to word selecting and structure adjusting; be "simple" by adopting colloquial style and omission strategy, be "refined" by properly dealing with rhetorical speech and culturally-loaded words. All the main points made in the thesis are supported by and illuminated with examples from I Do.
