Translation plays an important role in the success of American TV series House of Cards in China apart from the work itself and commercial publicity.By studying the translation rules of successful subtitle translators, the author attempts to provide methodological reference for English-Chinese(hereinafter referred to as “EC”)subtitle translation in international exchanges. In this paper, the culture-loaded expressions in EC subtitle of House of Cards are taken as the research objective, and the translation methods of case study, literature and inductive reasoning are taken to explore the guiding translation theory followed in subtitle translation. The author explores the translator's translation choices in terms of translation strategies, skills and methods from culture-loaded expressions(including slangs, idioms and religious culture-loaded expressions). In the text center, translator center and reader center of translation studies, subtitle translation is reader centered and takes the reader's reception effect as the highest principle.Eugene A.Nida's dynamic equivalence translation theory is precisely the translation theory centered on reader's reception.Nida's dynamic equivalence theory has always been highly valued and effectively influenced China's translation practice.Through study, the author concludes that translators flexibly adopt translation strategies like domestication and foreignization, literal translation and free translation methods,as well as translation skills such as amplification, omission and adaption in subtitle translation. However,no matter what strategy, method or skill the translator employs for translating culture-loaded expressions,he/she aims at the dynamic equivalence between the source and the receptor language audience's reception effect, which tells much about the translation for subtitle culture-loadedexpressions.Therefore,in order to achieve this goal, the translator does not blindly adhere to the original text to achieve linguistic equivalence, but flexibly uses various translation strategies, methods and skills to achieve meaning dynamic equivalence between the two languages in subtitle translation. To realize dynamic equivalence, the translation strategies, methods and skills employed by the translator are of great significance to the translation of culture-loaded expressions in subtitles of film and television works.
