Establishing nominal kinship is one kind of Child-care custom which has lasted thousands of years.Based on field-work and literature records and historical documents,this thesis deeply describes the ritualof establishing nominal kinship from the perspective of belief system,ritual system and symbolic system,trying to proclaim its cultural significance.This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is an introduction, which describes the meaning forchoosing this topic, as well as the research content and methods, and the academic history of this topicresearch. The second part is the introduction about the condition of establishing nominal kinship among thepeople, concluding the reasons, object to choose, relationship to preserve, as well as the field observation ofthe ritual of establishing nominal kinship. The third part is the field-work about establishing nominalkinship. The fourth part is the anthropological interpretation of establishing nominal kinship customs,including the Chinese cultural knowledge for the children’s development, the social and cultural analysisfor establishing nominal kinship in Nanli Village Xiping County, and for the other places in Henanprovince. The fifth part is the conclusion,which evaluates the influence for the ritual of establishingnominal kinship for children’s social lives and moral ideas.
