The Vocabulary Study Of Plants In Taiping Guang Ji

As one of the four official books in the Song Dynasty,TaiPing GuangJi has the characteristics of all-inclusiveness and voluminousness.Thispaper analyses the selected part about the plant records in TaiPing GuangJi.Covering all the plants before Song Dynasty,TaiPing Guang Ji studiesthe nomenclature of diverse plants and lexical features,which will play animportant role on the construction of Middle Chinese vocabulary, history.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first part introduces thecompilation,content and editions of TaiPing Guang Ji, and its researchstatus at home and abroad. And furthermore,it explains the researchobject and meaning of this paper,and briefly describes the methods andmeans used in this paper.The second part covers the study ofnomenclature and the classification of the plant name in this book on thebase of naming principle. The third chapter studies the plant namestructures based on the syllable characteristics of the plants and s--ummarizes several characteristics of word formation.The fourth chapterresearches characteristic vocabularies,selects plant descriptive voca- -bularies and states the application features of plant vocabularies by themethod of comparative study of synonyms or near-synonyms.
