This thesis arranged the researches on the Zi-based Theory of Chinese, andsummarized some key points by the experts of this theory to introduce them throughclassification. This thesis include three aspects:1.The development stage of Zi-basedTheory,2.The key points of Zi-based Theory,3.The views of Chinese linguistic on thistheory. The development of the Zi-based Theory can be broadly divided into three phases:Xu Tong-qiang did the basic work in the stage of founded and development. He stated theconception of the Zi-based Theory first and worked for it industriously to make it perfect. So this theory has attracted so much attention since it was born. In the stage of integrity,Lu Chuan and Pan Wenguo admitted this theory and they put forward their unique pointsof view to construct their own system. The subsequent studies confirmed the practicalvalue of this theory. The key points of this theory include three aspects:1.Zi is a basic structural unit ofChinese. Zi should be the start and the end of the research on Chinese Grammar;2.TheGrammaticalization of Zi has its own way which has three stages: Ci, Kuai and Dou. Theresearch on Chinese Grammar could start at semantics and Chinese is a kind of ParatacticLanguage, the language order plays an important role in Chinese Grammar;3.Incomparison with Indo-European languages “subject-predicate structure”, languageorder is more important than grammar in Chinese, so “topic-comment structure” is moresuitable for Chinese. It soon became a hot topic since the Zi-based Theory was born. There are still somedifferent opinions on this theory. People who hold the view of agreement attachimportance to the theoretical value and innovative significance. Other people give directdifferent opinions on basic conception, rigorous degree, future development.
