This is a reflective research report on the author’s own translation practice. The authorparticipated in the2012foreign-aid education program organized by Northeast NormalUniversity. He was responsible for some of the translation, interpretation and reception work.He translated Theory and Practice of School-based Teaching Research and revised thetranslation of China’s Basic Education Reform: Major Moves in Past Ten Years and FutureTrends, both of which were lecture materials for the program.The author adopted various translation strategies and skills in the translation process. Inthis report, the author compares the translations with their original and the revised translationwith the original one from the perspective of terminology, proper nouns, long sentences andmultiple text types. According to the comparison and analysis, he finds that the translationshave both merits and demerits. And the author perceives his advantages and disadvantages asthe paper concludes in the last part of the report that he should learn more about Englishlanguage, broaden his scope of knowledge and practice more.This report is composed of four parts. In the first part, the author makes an introductionto the foreign-aid educational program and does a detailed analysis of the source texts. In thesecond part, the author looks back on the translation process and summarizes the dominantdifficulties that have confronted the author. The third part is essential to the report. In this part,the author demonstrates some well selected typical translation samples of terminology, propernouns, long sentences and text types in an attempt to sum up the translation strategies andmethods and evaluate the author’s performance in the translation practice. In the last part, theauthor elaborates his acquisition of translation from the composition of the report. The authorsucceeds in finding his limitations, which determines the directions of the author’s futurestudy. The author hopes this report will be useful to those who will be involved in thetranslation of lecture materials for the foreign-aid education program.
