This is a translation practice report. The source text covers the first chapter of An Introduction to Islamic Finance:Theory and Practice. The first chapter of this book is "Introduction". Based on a brief introduction to the background of the translation practice as well as the characteristics of the source text, the author summarizes the difficulties confronted in translation and discusses the methods of handling them. Considering the differences between English and Chinese, the author holds that literal translation should be applied as much as possible on the basis of expressing the meaning correctly. While making efforts to reproduce the meaning of the Islamic financial terms exactly, the author of this report tries hard to reproduce a smooth translation, bearing in mind the differences between English and Chinese. The report includes four parts:The first part is introduction, including the background, objectives and significance of the translation practice. The second part is the analysis of the source text, including linguistic and extra-linguistic features. The third part is about translation difficulties and methods. Based on the differences between English and Chinese, the report explains with specific examples the methods and skills used in the translation practice. The last part concludes with the lessons and implications from the translation practice.
