This is a report on an interpreting task for a logistics company by the author, which elaborates the application of translation variation strategies to interpreting.Based on a self-assessment of her consecutive interpreting performance for aninternational logistics company and an analysis of the recorded transcription, theauthor studies the typical difficulties that frequently occurred in logistics interpreting, including unexpected terminologies, complicated quotes and calculation, andoverloaded information. The author, through typical case analysis, summarizes thefive translation variation strategies that can be applied in interpreting, includingsupplement, deletion, remodeling, summarization, and edition. It is then argued thatinterpreters should not abuse translation variation strategies. The author hopes thatthis report can not only help other interpreters better understand and apply translationvariation strategies in interpreting but offer some references for interpreters who wantto work in international logistics.
