The political document translation serves as an important channel to present ournational policy, guidelines as well as political stand. At present, relevant research onthe C-E translation of political documents have been conducted mainly on thelinguistic level. However, ideology-oriented attempt is seldom undertaken. The thesis, based on Lefevere’s manipulation theory, aims to illustrate theinfluence of ideological manipulation on the tranlsation of political discourse genre bya close survey ranging from the selection of the source texts, the strategies used andthe bilingual transformating process. The study reveals that ideology exerts manipulating influence on the wholetranslation process. To be specific: the preliminary stage includes the selection ofsource texts to be translated, the choice of translation strategies. In the operationalstage, the translator rewrites the information through the application of translationstrategies such as domestication and foreignization. It is evident that these twostrategies could be the guidence in political document translation. However, the twostrategies sometimes have been misued. The improper use of translation strategy, suchas over foreignization, would hinder foreign readers from understanding the sourcetexts. In order to fulfill the purpose of source texts, on the one hand, the translatorsmay adopt foreignization as the principal strategy to convey the dominant ideology ofthe source texts. On the other hand, the domestication could be flexibly adopted as acomplementary strategy. In this way, it not only meets target readers’ expectation butalso fulfills the textual function of the source texts. This research examines the rationality of the manipulation theory on the C-Etranslation of political documents. In the meantime, the present study is expected tocontribute methdologicially to the translating practices in the domain of C-Etranslation of political documents.
