Compared with other common literatures, film and television works great difference:film is a screen art, in which screen has close connection with caption. So when we translate a film caption, we should change suitably in consideration of basic translation methods and the characteristics of film caption itself.Language is the bridge of culture exchange, and translation is the bridge of intercultural communication. Literal translation and liberal translation strategy coexist effectively in English-Chinese translation. The author will use the two kinds of methods in translating the caption of Scent of a Woman, in order to find how they work effectively in cultural transmission.Film has become an important approach in transmitting different cultures all over the world, as it develops so fast in recent decades. The film Scent of a Woman has great value in both thought and art. It tells about two men, a student faced with a dilemma and a blind colonel, who meet each other by chance, and then affect each other, finally bring "Rebirth" to each other. This thesis mainly discusses about how to use literal translation and liberal translation strategy in translating film caption. During the translation process, the author finds that it is difficult to separate the two translation methods from each other. What we can do is just to use two translation methods flexibly and skillfully, and make the Chinese public accept and understand more culture and style from original language of America in the same time.
