With the social and economic development and improvement of people’s livingstandard in China, Pu’er tea, because of its health benefits, charming taste andhistorical value, has become popular in recent years.This report records the author’s interpreting field practice at the Pu’er TeaExhibition in Kunming International Convention and Exhibition Center in Kunming,Yunnan Province. In the report, the author describes the whole process of herinterpreting task, evaluates her performance on site, and analyzes some typical casesconcerning cross-cultural communication barriers that have caused great problemsduring the task. From the analyses, the author concludes paraphrasing, addition anddescription as three useful strategies for cross-cultural communication barriers ininterpreting practice. The author also put forward several suggestions andenlightenments for fellow student interpreters to use as a source of reference.This report aims to offer solutions for interpreters with less experience to dealwith cross-cultural communication barriers. The author hopes that this report canprovide some enlightenment for student interpreters or interpreter trainees to performbetter in similar situations.
