This report is based on the author’s experience of interpreting for the US journalist delegation from September 18 to 21 when the author took up an internship in Ningxia Foreign Affairs Office for about three months. It analyzes the potential interpreting barriers from the perspective of cross-cultural communication and puts forward effective strategies to improve the quality of tourist interpretation in Ningxia. First, the author introduces the background of the interpretation task. The second part presents the barriers of tourist interpretation and analyzes main causes of the barriers from the perspective of cross-cultural communication. The third part suggests strategies to eliminate the barriers and provides case analysis from the interpreting experience. Lastly, the author summarizes and reflects on the interpretation practice.
