In recent years, interpreting has become more and more important ininternational connection between countries. A lot of conferences and meetings areheld every year. In the interpreting of political talks, speakers are usually nationalleaders or government officials, which impose much higher requirements forinterpreters. What‘s more, in interpreting of political talks, those culture-loadedexpressions are always big challenges for interpreters since they are usually of highinformation density and it‘s hard to find the equivalent expressions in the targetlanguage.Upon the literature review of the previous researches, the author attempts tostudy on the interpreting of culture-loaded expression in political talks from theperspective of Skopos Theory. Skopos Theory allows that one source text can betranslated in different ways to achieve different purposes. And that will enableinterpreters to have better choices in dealing with those culture-loaded expressions. Inthis thesis, the author collected the latest interpreting texts of political talks, such asthe speeches given by President Xi Jinping in the APEC CEO Summit held in October,2013, speech given by Premier Li Keqiang in the China-ASEAN Expo held inOctober in2013, and other talks in press conferences held in2012and2013duringthe annual NPC and CPPCC sessions.Through the research and case study, the author tries to make a systematicanalysis on the different coping strategies in interpreting according to the differenttypes of culture-loaded expressions, such as literal interpreting, literal interpretingwith explanations, borrowing and so on. Another analysis is about the application ofthe three different rules in Skopos Theory. All these have helpfully enriched theapplication of Skopos Theory in interpreting studies.
