More and more foreign media are paying close attention to China5 s development as China's national strength is getting elevated day by day.The premier's press conference held at the end of the annual Two Sessions serves as a platform for media from home and abroad to get a better knowledge of China's recent development and future orientation.During the press conference,China's premier uses various kinds of culture-loaded expressions to better convey his intended messages.Culture-loaded expressions refer to the words and phrases of various forms that are formed throughout the long history of a nation or country, including poems and poetry, idioms and proverbs, and other types of words and phrases.Due to the fact that culture-loaded expressions embody the unique culture of a nation, they can be quite difficult for the audience who speak a different language to understand. In the course of interpreting, interpreters should assume the responsibility of accurately transmitting information. Therefore,it is of great significance to interpret such culture-loaded expressions effectively in order to help the audience better understand the intended messages. So far, studies on such culture-loaded expressions are quite limited in terms of both quantity and quality. Therefore, after searching for adequate materials, this thesis decides to carry out a study on culture-loaded expressions by choosing the speeches of premier Li Keqiang and former premier Wen Jiaobao's in the press conference during the Two Sessions as the study materials. This thesis mainly focuses on a comparative study between professional interpreters and student interpreters in terms of their interpretation strategies of culture-loaded expressions and how the three rules of the Skopos Theory have been fulfilled.Through the comparative study,it is found that free translation strategy is more likely to be adopted when dealing with poems and idioms, while literal translation or literal translation with necessary explanation frequently appear in the case of words and phrases with Chinese characteristics for professional interpreters and student interpreters alike. In addition, compared with professional interpreters, who can manage to achieve the skopos of the speaker in all aspects, student interpreters still have a wide space for improvement in terms of fulfilling the three rules of the Skopos Theory. After the study, possible suggestions will be proposed for students to better cope with culture-loaded expressions.
