Biographic literature has become a popular focus due to non-stop pervasive globalization, international cultural exchange as well as the market economy. In this case, more and more biographers present to the public the historic celebrities and prodigies in various fields through objective description. However, biographies differ from each other by the figures’ respective background information, which means that translators’ good knowledge of the figure must precede translating so as to show readers the image as real as possible in other languages. This thesis is based on the excerpt of Cambridge Minds published by Cambridge University press and its translation by the author. Cambridge Minds introduces some renowned figures of Cambridge within the recent150years, who specialized in different areas, like philosophy, mathematics, logics, astronomy, history, literature and so on forth, which is the very reason for the existence of abundant terms, complicated sentences and obscure professional knowledge in biographies. With the theoretical support of the theory of functional equivalence, this essay, from the perspective of semantic and stylistic equivalence, is concentrated on the analysis of the problems in the translating process to conclude the appropriate strategies for biographic translation.
