With the rapid development of domestic economy, China is improving its international status in the economy and politics. Many overseas-funded enterprises, going with our growing domestic and international exchanges, are pursuing their share in Chinese market, which leads to more and more mutual collaboration between China and the outside world. Hence English is playing an outstanding role in our international communication, and new standards for translation talents and more requirements for its training method are posed by the changing society.Since the1970s, the training of translation competence has always been an important topic of the research on translation education. Many famous scholars, home and abroad, conducted a number of researches in this field widely and deeply. And PACTE, the Spanish research group on translation competence, whose translation competence mode has got identification from many scholars and been widely used in the translation circle, suggests that translation competence comprises some secondary ones. By contrast, our research on this topic is still in an initial stage, in which our training of this competence does somehow lag behind. Therefore, a method based on the guidance of the theory of constructivism is effective for improving such a translation competence which benefits the students.Constructivism, as known as structuralism, which was first put forward by famous Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget, is a main branch of cognitive psychology as well as one of the most-influenced ones in western educational psychology. It is characterized by the student-centered idea, and the initiative role played by students in active exploration and discoveries of the knowledge, active meaning construction of what have learned. During the process of our training, a lot of work should not only be put into the improvement of learners’ competence in renewing their knowledge structure, but also the analysis of current market demands which is drawing our attention. By doing so, the knowledge and competence our students get can be feasibly used in their daily translation work in all sorts of fields. In this study, initiative, practical and collaborative learning principles are promoted and different training strategies are proposed, with constructivism acting as the underlying theory and Spanish PACTE mode as the standard. There are five parts in this paper. Introduction, as the first part, is brief in the research background, purpose and significance of the research. Literature review, as part two, sums up and analyzes the training situation on translation competence at home and abroad. In part three, theoretical basis is introduced, such as definition, basic views and common training modes of constructivism. Part four is the core of this paper, in which the translation competence is introduced, followed by the analysis of training principles based on the theory of constructivism. And on this basis, the author suggests group training strategies for translation knowledge, real project, simulations task. Conclusion is given in the last part, which comprises the findings, inspiration, insufficiency and direction of the research.
