Research On The Diachronic Evolution Of Ba-construction In Chinese

Ba-construction is a very important syntactic form in Chinese, which is usingactive in written language and oral communication. From the fifties of last century,Ba-construction has been a hotspot and difficulty of the study of Chinese grammar.Many of domestic and foreign scholars had carried out extensive and in-depthresearch on this syntactic structure, and made great achievement. As with thedevelopment of cognitive linguistics theory grammaticalization theory andsemantic change theory, the research on Ba-construction has risen to a new level.However, Ba-construction tends to focus on Synchronic research. New theoreticalapplications have not penetrated into the field of historical study.Research on Syntactic evolution is an important task in the study of Chinesehistory syntax. This paper comprehensively uses the grammaticalization theory,semantic evolution theory and cognitive linguistics theory to research onBa-construction syntactic evolution. This paper mainly studies about the semanticevolution of Ba in Chinese, the grammaticalization of Ba-construction and thesyntactic evolvement mechanism of Ba-construction etc. The conclusion of thispaper is Ba-sentence in Chinese is grammaticalized from special context, and itsgrammatical path is context> serial verb construction> Ba-construction. Theresearch finds that instrumental construction and disposal construction arereanalyzed from different semantic types of serial verb constructions; however,there is no direct evolutional relationship between them. In specific serial verbconstruction, Ba could be reanalyzed as instrumental preposition and disposalmarker, but the reanalysis process is restricted by syntax, semantics andpragmatics, and the reanalysis result is different since the different proportion andinteraction degree among them.
