The interpretation of figures is a daunting task for interpreters. Chinese is characterized with focus on semantics, which makes it difficult to be interpreted into English with a high quality. Text-offhand simultaneous interpreting of figures poses even higher requirements for interpreters. It is found that compared with other parts in the process of interpretation, the figures are most likely to be misinterpreted even by high-qualified interpreters on World Economic Forum or important government reports. This report takes the remarks by Huang Longyun, Executive Vice Governor of Guangdong Province at the "2007International Consultative Conference on the Future Economic Development of Guangdong Province" as a training material and analyzes the text of the interpretation of his speech. Because sentence patterns relevant to figures are limited and regular, so if the interpreters have a ready-formed chart of those sentence patterns, it will be much easier for them to anticipate the text in source language. In addition to that, different sentence patterns related to figures, which are symbolized by different attributes, adverbial or complement and propositions can give the interpreters hints on anticipation of the following source language. With this in mind, the interpreter applied the interpreting skills of anticipation and waiting during the process of simulative simultaneous interpretation. By analyzing the interpretation of figures in this material, the author summarizes how to apply the skills of anticipation and waiting into the interpretation of figures. In addition, the summarization will facilitate the author to achieve better performance in practice of the future.
