A Study On The Stylistic Features Of Chinese Translation Of English Economic Journal Articles Based On The Theory Of"Faithfulness、 Expressiveness、 Elegance"

After China carried out reform and open policy, international trade achieved a considerable progress and English economic journal articles have played a vital role in the process. More and more English business articles were introduced and translated into Chinese; therefore, the studies on the Chinese translation of the English economic news and articles have become tremendously significant. However, research on the stylistic features of this type of translation, based on the principles of faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance, is rare.This paper introduces Mr. Yan Fu’s theory of faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance and analyzes the relationship and influencing mechanism between the theory and the translation of economic news articles. Next, the author discusses about the possible and appropriate stylistic features economic journal translation should possess through some well selected cases. After analyzing the characteristics about title, introduction and body of the type of articles, the author believes that the economic journal articles share the traits including accuracy, simplicity, flexibility and entertainment; therefore, the translation of this literal form must embody the criteria of accuracy, briefness and professionalism. Finally, through analysis at the levels of vocabulary and phrase, sentence and clause, as well as paragraph, the paper concludes the appropriate translating strategies including the usage of ellipsis, combination, separation, domestication, literal and liberal translation.This paper discusses the criteria of accuracy, briefness and professionalism applying Yan Fu’s principles of faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance into case studies, summarizes economic journal article translation principles, and finally comes to the conclusion of translating strategies.
