Chinese characters are the essence of our national culture, rich forms of Chinesecharacters are the valuable spiritual wealth of Chinese nation, and is the source of inspirationfor Chinese characters design. This thesis from development process of Chinese characters toanalyze, explore, and look for character design methods. Not only to understand the existingmethods based on the analysis of the traditional Chinese characters and the writingcharacteristics, but also by the previous heuristic, to make the past serve the present, and tointegrate modern ideas and technology, to make the design more national, more rich inoriental charm.This thesis mainly from the following several aspects to analyze and discuss:Firstly, concept and effect of character design.We should first make clear the concept and function of a problem before to analyze andsummarize it. Therefore this thesis from two aspects to analyze, firstly, explain the conceptand function of “character design”, secondly, resolve the principle of “character design”.Secondly,an overview of the development of Chinese characters.The evolution of Chinese characters is the design process of Chinese characters. Thischapter is inspired mainly from the studying of origin, formation method, classification andcharacteristic of Chinese characters, the character style of the evolution history anddevelopment discipline to obtain the sources and methods of modern Chinese charactersdesign. We study the traditional Chinese character culture, just not the simple copy, but basedon the fully understanding of traditional Chinese character culture, we take creation rules oftraditional Chinese character as thinking sources and principles of modern font design, enablethe design appear national individual and characteristic.Thirdly, character design methods.Link past and present-the traditional Chinese culture can give designer potentialinspiration. Many people of insight apply modern aesthetic and design theory to improve,refine and develop a variety of design elements of traditional Chinese character culture, tomake it have contemporary feeling, or fully applied the traditional culture methods and formsof decoration to modern design. Every effort and attempt they made give reference and inspiration to learners and designers.The Chinese character design type and the characteristic, the Chinese character designscope as well as the design method-are the main research object of this thesis. This chapterfocuses on the association and imagination, deconstruction and isomorphism, and so do abrief summary. The basic design methods of Chinese character are summarized and explainedin detail:“The overall displaces isomorphism, the partial substitutes isomorphism, commonisomorphism as well as structural change and so on.” We hope that this thesis has someacademic significances and effects in aspect of broadening Chinese characters on design ofperformance space, promoting development of Chinese characters design, innovating designlanguage forms.
