| This report is based on the author’s interpreting practice at Shandong Normal University.The author chooses Obama’s speech at Fudan University as the interpreting material. UnitedStates President Barack Obama arrived at Shanghai in2009, and it was his first visit to China. InShanghai, Obama had a dialogue with the future Chinese leaders. The content of the speechinvolves the history of Sino-U.S. relation, the economic and energy problems. This report consistsof4parts: task description, process description, error analysis and conclusion.The first part mainly gives a description of the interpreting task. It introduces the maincontent of the speech; the background of it as well as Obama’s visit to china, and it also indicatesthe speaking style of President Obama. The second part mainly talks about the process of thisinterpreting practice, including the preparation before interpreting, the interpreting requirementsfor the interpreters, the material that needs to be used and the theory used in the process of thepractice. The third part is a case analysis. The author first introduces some common errors existingin the process of interpreting according to some researches, and then the author summarizes theerrors in her practice and classifies them into some types. The author starts this work with thecomparison between her own interpreting practice and the official version. After making aconcrete analysis of the practice, the author puts forward some suggestions about consecutiveinterpreting. The forth part is about the evaluation. After analyzing this exercise, the report pointsout that practical practice is the most important part of interpreting learning, for it can enhancestudents’ interpreting ability effectively. The school should carry out some proper curriculaadjustments in order to help the student-interpreters be better prepared for the unexpected bothpsychologically and technically.The author hopes that these suggestions could offer some experience for interpreting studiesand make some contributions to the academic research in the field of interpretation. |
